Maynilad cuts water rates starting July; Manila Water fees unchanges

Starting July 1, 2026, Maynilad customers will see slightly lower monthly water bills, while rates for Manila Water subscribers will stay the same, according to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO). The adjustment arises from the foreign currency differential adjustment (FCDA), a mechanism that adjusts tariffs to reflect gains or losses from exchange rate shifts on foreign loans used for service upgrades.

Maynilad’s reduction comes mainly from the peso’s rise against the Japanese yen, as nearly half of its foreign loans are yen-denominated. Its rate will drop by ₱0.12, settling at ₱78.43 per cubic meter for sewered customers and ₱67.58 per cubic meter for those without sewer connections. Low-income and Pantawid Pamilyang beneficiaries using 10 cubic meters or 20 cubic meters or less respectively are exempt, so their bills will not change. Regular residential users will save between ₱0.34 and ₱2.66 monthly, depending on consumption.

Manila Water, whose foreign debt is entirely in US dollars, would have had a minimal rate increase of less than one centavo per cubic meter. Regulators noted this adjustment is too small to implement now and will be carried over to the next quarter instead.

Maynilad serves the west zone of Metro Manila and parts of Cavite, while Manila Water covers the east zone and areas in Rizal province. The adjustments ensure rate changes align with actual currency impacts, keeping costs fair and predictable for most households.
