As digital fraud grows more complex, basic identity checks are no longer enough for businesses to secure transactions. PLDT Enterprise has announced that its wireless arm Smart Communications has secured GSMA Open Gateway certification for the SmartSafe RoamStatus API, building on Smart’s earlier milestone as the first Philippine telco certified for Number Verification APIs. This new tool lets enterprises instantly confirm if a user’s device is roaming locally or abroad through network signals, with no extra action from customers and no exposure of private location data, helping flag unusual activity and cut fraud especially for banks, merchants and digital platforms. The certification follows global CAMARA security standards, and GSMA noted the achievement shows the Philippines’ leadership in regional adoption of unified network APIs. The SmartSafe line will later add SIM verification, network location checks and enhanced KYC features, all backed by Smart’s nationwide network and aligned with local digital security rules.
