Alsons Power bullish on PH retail energy sector amid rule changes

Alsons Power Group sees strong growth ahead for its retail electricity supply business, following recent regulatory changes that open the market to more users. The Energy Regulatory Commission cut the required monthly peak demand threshold from 500 kW to 100 kW starting this June, letting more businesses choose their power provider. The firm’s supply arm currently delivers 118 MW to major industrial clients, backed by over 500 MW of capacity from both traditional and renewable sources across Visayas and Mindanao, with large solar projects in Mindanao in the works. ERC data shows RES users saved nearly P50 billion in the first half of 2024 alone. Alsons says it offers competitive rates, custom plans, transparent billing and dedicated support to shield partners from market swings while helping them meet sustainability goals, positioning itself as a full energy partner rather than just a power supplier.
