PLDT Inc. has confirmed it is fully prepared to support the government’s rising need for secure data storage and digital systems following the signing of Executive Order No. 119, which sets official rules for keeping government data within the country. The measure is meant to better protect Filipinos’ private information and move the nation’s digital transformation forward.
PLDT chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan stated his support for the policy, noting the company has spent years building the necessary infrastructure and developing staff skills to help turn the government’s digital goals into action. He added that PLDT is ready to help secure vital data and speed up modernization efforts across the public sector.
Victor S. Genuino, who heads ePLDT Inc. and VITRO REIT Inc., described the order as a major step that aligns the country’s data rules with global digital economy standards, boosting both national security and business competitiveness. He explained that PLDT already stores important information for key government agencies and private firms, and the newly opened VITRO Santa Rosa facility—the country’s first data center built for artificial intelligence use—adds extra capacity and advanced features needed by public offices.
Independent research as of April 2026 shows ePLDT and VITRO REIT have operated trusted digital infrastructure for over 25 years, running the country’s largest set of active data center spaces with around 34 megawatts of ready-to-use capacity spread across different parts of the Philippines.
Long-term investments have also led to the launch of Pilipinas Cloud in 2023, a secure local cloud system designed specifically to hold sensitive government records and programs while following all national data protection laws. This was followed by Pilipinas AI in 2025, the first locally built set of AI tools that lets agencies and businesses use artificial intelligence without building their own complex systems, while keeping all important data within Philippine territory.
Together with PLDT and Smart’s combined fixed and wireless networks—including nearly 1.3 million kilometers of fiber cables as of March 2026, the most extensive in the country—these facilities support the Philippines’ goal of becoming a top regional center for digital innovation as AI use grows worldwide.
