Frustration over persistently subpar electricity services has come over more than 22,000 Nasugbu residents representing 70 percent of subscribers who demand a transformative change and petition for the junking of BATELEC 1 and take on Meralco instead.
In recent months, Nasugbu has been plagued by frequent and prolonged brownouts, with voltage fluctuations wreaking havoc on appliances and equipment in homes and businesses. The accumulating complaints have become impossible to ignore, prompting residents to rally behind their Mayor, Tony Barcelon, and authorizing him to initiate discussions with Meralco.
The support for the petition underscores the unwavering determination of Nasugbu residents to secure a brighter future. “This isn’t just about electricity; it’s about uplifting our livelihoods,” said a petitioner, encapsulating the sentiment echoed throughout the municipality.
Barcelon has tirelessly conveyed the grievances of his constituents to both BATELEC I and the relevant government agencies overseeing electric cooperatives. In a report published by the Regioneer, a leading newspaper in Batangas, Barcelon called on BATELEC I to collaborate with the local government and explore options for transferring electricity services to Meralco.
As the movement gains momentum, Nasugbu residents stand firm that their wish for quality electricity services will only come to fruition with the support of government leaders.
According to Barcelon “Nasugbu stands united, echoing the voice of over 22,000 signatures, demanding nothing short of excellence in electricity services. Together, we urge a transition to MERALCO, symbolizing our unwavering pursuit of quality power for our progressive community.”
