Toyota nears 3M sales as manufacturing fuels Philippine growth

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is poised to surpass three million cumulative vehicle sales later this year, a milestone that highlights how nearly four decades of local manufacturing and sustained investments have helped cement its position as a key driver of jobs, industrial development, and the country’s automotive sector.

Marking its 38th anniversary, TMP said the achievement reflects the accelerating pace of vehicle ownership in the Philippines. The company took 27 years to reach its first one million sales, seven years to add the second million, and just over four years to approach the three-million mark, underscoring stronger consumer demand despite recent economic headwinds.

The milestone also illustrates the growing role of domestic vehicle assembly in supporting broader economic activity. TMP has produced more than 1.21 million Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units at its manufacturing facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna, generating spillover benefits for local parts suppliers, exporters, technology transfer, and skills development.

The plant, located within the Toyota Special Economic Zone, has become a cornerstone of the country’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem. TMP now directly employs a record 4,500 workers while supporting more than 83,000 jobs across its dealer network, suppliers, and subsidiaries.

The company also posted a record production volume of 63,803 units in 2025, led by the locally assembled Vios, Innova, and the revived Tamaraw, reflecting renewed demand for vehicles built in the Philippines.

TMP President Masando Hashimoto said the company expects sales momentum to continue as market conditions improve.

“We are ready to respond with significantly better supply for our high-demand models. Now, success depends on execution,” Hashimoto said.

Beyond sales, Toyota continues to dominate the domestic automotive market, retaining its 24th consecutive Triple Crown in 2025 by leading passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and overall vehicle sales.

As the Philippine automotive industry positions itself for the next phase of growth, Toyota’s expanding manufacturing footprint highlights the strategic value of local production. Beyond meeting domestic demand, stronger manufacturing capabilities can deepen supply chains, attract new investments, create higher-value jobs, and strengthen the country’s competitiveness as Southeast Asia’s automotive landscape continues to evolve.
