In a prominent demonstration of deepening maritime ties, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya was honored during a farewell ceremony hosted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday. The event highlighted Japan’s crucial role in strengthening regional maritime security and celebrated the expanding strategic partnership between Tokyo and Manila.
During the ceremony, PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan presented Ambassador Endo with the Outstanding Achievement Medal and Ribbon, recognizing his diplomatic contributions and leadership in fostering cross-border cooperation. Admiral Gavan expressed deep appreciation for Japan’s long-standing support, emphasizing that Tokyo’s tangible contributions—most notably the provision of patrol vessels—have proven invaluable to the PCG’s operational capabilities. He noted that Ambassador Endo’s diplomatic efforts have extended far beyond routine agency-level collaboration, embodying the enduring alliance and mutual trust shared by the two nations.
In his address, Ambassador Endo commended Admiral Gavan’s leadership and praised the seamless collaboration between the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and the PCG. Reflecting on his tenure, Ambassador Endo expressed optimism for the future of bilateral relations, voicing confidence that Japan and the Philippines will continue to advance joint security initiatives and address shared regional challenges together.
