More than 24 million Filipinos have used their National ID to verify their identities and open GCash accounts, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
As of May 2026, PSA figures show 24.4 million GCash users—representing 61 percent of all onboarded users—relied on the National ID for account opening and verification. Whether in card, paper, or digital form, the National ID has become the most commonly used identification document for the platform’s verification process.
These numbers highlight the value of the partnership between the PSA and GCash in expanding access to digital financial services, especially for underserved and marginalized communities across the country.
“This initiative ensures that the lack of a government-issued ID does not stop Filipinos from joining the nation’s digital transformation,” said PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, who also serves as National Statistician and Civil Registrar General. “We want to make sure no Filipino gets left behind in the country’s digital transformation agenda just because they don’t have a government ID.”
The PSA noted that efforts to bring National ID registration and GCash services directly to communities—including programs at the barangay level—are helping remove barriers faced by unbanked families.
“Bringing National ID and GCash registration services directly to barangays helps remove barriers to access, providing unbanked families with a trusted means of identification and easier access to essential financial services,” Mapa added.
This widespread adoption demonstrates the National ID system’s effectiveness as a reliable verification tool for digital finance. It strengthens GCash’s ability to serve as an inclusive financial platform while advancing national goals for broader financial inclusion. By simplifying identity checks, the partnership builds greater trust in digital services and reduces the gap between banked and unbanked populations, supporting the country’s shift toward a fully digital economy.
