Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) hit a record 63,803 locally assembled vehicles in 2025 as its Next Generation Tamaraw helped expand domestic sourcing and business opportunities for parts suppliers, body builders, and small enterprises.
Backed by a P5.5-billion investment in production, parts localization, and conversion capabilities, the Tamaraw captured 36 percent of the pure commercial vehicle market in its first full year of sales in 2025 and became the top model in the light commercial vehicle segment.
The additional completely knocked-down model has expanded opportunities across the automotive value chain, from Filipino designers and engineers to parts suppliers and vehicle conversion businesses.
“The Tamaraw is one of our major means in creating and adding new value for both our internal and external stakeholders, from the upstream to downstream,” TMP President Masando Hashimoto said.
TMP’s total CKD production in 2025 included the Vios and Innova, while cumulative production surpassed 1.18 million vehicles by year-end. Purchases from domestic suppliers reached P17 billion during the year.
TMP generated P283.83 billion in economic value in 2025, including P43.13 billion in taxes and duties.
The Tamaraw is also opening a larger market for local body builders as demand grows for customized commercial vehicles. TMP has tapped seven domestic body builders to produce configurations ranging from food trucks and patrol vehicles to modern public utility vehicles.
The Tamaraw currently comes in six in-house configurations, with seven additional body styles available through external converters.
That flexibility could make the vehicle particularly relevant to micro, small, and medium enterprises, local governments, and public-service operators looking for commercial vehicles tailored to specific needs.
Beyond its sales performance, the Tamaraw is becoming a test of how much economic value a locally manufactured vehicle can generate beyond the factory floor.
