More than 300 elementary students in San Juan City received school supplies and access to new reading spaces as the One Meralco Foundation (OMF) expanded its Balik Eskwela program to Salapan Integrated School.
The social responsibility arm of Manila Electric Co. turned over school kits and several reading nooks to pupils from kindergarten to Grade 2, providing learning materials to help them prepare for the school year.
The kits include tracing workbooks, storybooks, flash cards, pencils and pencil cases, and crayons.
The activity brought together San Juan City officials, school administrators, Meralco executives, and employee volunteers from the company’s Human Resources and Corporate Communications offices.
OMF President and Chief CSR Officer Jeffrey O. Tarayao led the foundation’s delegation, joined by Meralco First Vice President and Chief Human Resources and Head of Corporate Services Hans Montenegro, Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga, and Meralco Bolts Team Manager Paolo Trillo.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora and Special Assistant to the Mayor Rocco Zamora also joined the activity, along with Schools Division Superintendent Nerissa Losaria and Salapan Integrated School Principal Demie Atienza.
Meralco Bolts players added a sporting touch, giving autographed basketballs to student-athletes and encouraging them to pursue excellence both in sports and academics.
The Salapan activity is part of OMF’s wider Balik Eskwela program, under which the foundation and its partners aim to distribute more than 10,000 school kits to elementary students across Meralco’s franchise area.
The initiative supports the Department of Education’s mandate to promote quality and equitable access to basic education for Filipino learners.
