The Department of Environment and Natural Resources launched the Pinoy Biotech Hub today, a centralized digital platform linking Filipinos directly to local biotech solutions, collaborators, and innovations across agriculture, natural resources, and environmental management. Developed by the DENR-Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau and the National Biotechnology Week Inter-Agency Steering Committee, the hub consolidates technologies from government, academe, and industry to simplify access and drive practical partnerships.
Running September 21–24, this year’s observance was moved from October under Proclamation No. 921 (2025) to align with Global Biotechnology Week. Established under Proclamation No. 1414, the event promotes biotech for food security, health, environmental sustainability, and inclusive growth, with the theme “Biotek para sa Kinabukasan: Kalikasan, Kalusugan, Kagandahan, Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran.”
Showcased are climate-smart farming tools, water and soil restoration technologies, sustainable marine resource solutions, and biosafety and workforce training. In a message delivered by Undersecretary Ernesto D. Adobo Jr., Secretary Juan Miguel “Mitch” T. Cuna cited biotechnology as key to land restoration, native species conservation, and sound policy-making, and pledged to move proven innovations from labs to communities responsibly.
Featured breakthrough H2Organics™, an ERDB-developed hydroseeding-hydrogel technology by Chemist IV Rejaynil M. Valdez, targets rehabilitation of mined-out and degraded land. ERDB Director Lormelyn E. Claudio said the hub fills long-standing information gaps, growing stronger with stakeholder contributions.
