Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) is taking on a broader role in Toyota’s Asian operations as the automaker taps its Philippine unit to train technical instructors from affiliates across the region.
Toyota Motor Asia (TMA) selected TMP as a regional training hub for body repair, paint and estimation (BPE), extending the Philippine subsidiary’s contribution beyond vehicle manufacturing and domestic sales into after-sales skills development.
The appointment positions TMP instructors to help strengthen and standardize technical capabilities across Toyota’s Asian distribution network, while giving the company an avenue to deepen its own training expertise.
TMP was chosen after an assessment of its instructors, training programs, facilities and equipment.
The first regional session ran from Sept. 7 to 18 at TMP’s Santa Rosa, Laguna headquarters and manufacturing complex, bringing together four body repair instructors from Indonesia, Laos, Thailand and Pakistan.
Under the program, which runs through 2029, TMP will deliver three training courses in its first year for instructors from Toyota affiliates in Asia.
The regional assignment could also bolster TMP’s domestic after-sales capabilities by exposing its trainers to a wider pool of practices and technical standards, potentially supporting improvements in repair and service quality in the Philippine market.
TMP’s BPE team has further strengthened its credentials, securing two global Toyota certifications this year covering paint and estimation instruction. Additional training is scheduled through 2027.
The regional training role comes after Filipino automotive workers earned six medals at the Toyota 2026 Asia Pacific Skills Contest in August, underscoring the Philippine unit’s growing participation in Toyota’s broader manufacturing and after-sales ecosystem.
For TMP, the new mandate adds a skills-development dimension to its regional role, making technical training another channel through which the Philippine operation contributes to Toyota’s Asia-wide network.
