Globe: Build connectivity into homes from day one

At the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association Convention, Globe presented connectivity as a fundamental component of modern housing rather than an auxiliary service.

Abby Cardino, Globe AT HOME Vice President and Head of Broadband Business Brand Management, observed that Filipino households span diverse profiles—including young professionals, growing families, overseas worker households, and older persons—each with distinct connectivity requirements that call for tailored home solutions.

Cardino said the company’s scope extends beyond internet provision to supporting housing developers in designing properties suited to contemporary living standards: connected, resilient, sustainable, and forward-capable. Integrating connectivity infrastructure during initial planning, she noted, delivers communities prepared to support remote work, education, public safety, and daily functions from occupancy onward.

For developers, this approach recommends including fiber routes, designated telecom spaces, network redundancy, comprehensive in-home coverage, and provision for future upgrades in project blueprints. Early incorporation of these elements eliminates the constraints and costs associated with retrofitting completed developments while allowing greater adaptability as technology and user needs evolve.

Globe also outlined its outlook for housing beyond 2027: as connected devices and digital systems become more prevalent, infrastructure will advance from basic access toward integrated, intelligent, and resilient environments combining seamless coverage, cybersecurity measures, energy efficiency, and user-centric design.

Cardino noted that realizing connected communities requires coordination, transparency, and cooperation among developers, telecommunications providers, and government bodies. In this framework, connectivity functions not merely as a utility but as structural infrastructure underpinning community design, household welfare, and long-term neighborhood viability.

Cardino participated in the convention’s closing morning fireside chat, presenting Globe AT HOME’s consumer portfolio and business solutions to industry stakeholders. The core message conveyed was that next-generation housing should embed connectivity readiness prior to turnover.

Early collaboration between developers and telecommunications providers is positioned as a strategy to deliver communities that meet both current and future connectivity requirements across the Philippines.
