Prime Waste Solutions (PWS) is broadening its environmental initiatives in host communities, complementing its large-scale waste management operations with coastal cleanup, reforestation and recycling programs.
The company said its participation in the International Coastal Cleanup on Sept. 19 resulted in 3,264 kilograms of waste being collected from coastal areas, helping remove marine debris while underscoring the persistent challenge of plastic pollution.
PWS employees from its Porac operations participated in cleanup activities in Bataan, while the company provided waste hauling and transportation support for a separate operation in Barangay Bacayan, Cebu.
For waste management operators, such initiatives reflect a wider push to address environmental impacts beyond the treatment and disposal of collected waste. They also provide opportunities to involve communities more directly in reducing waste that can reach waterways and other sensitive areas.
Earlier, nearly 100 PWS employees, residents, students and other stakeholders planted 1,400 seedlings at the company’s Pampanga project site in Barangay Planas, Porac, on Sept. 15.
Conducted under the Prime Kalikasan program, the activity included 700 Ylang-Ylang and 700 Narra seedlings, supporting reforestation within development areas and neighboring communities.
The community programs complement PWS’s core waste management operations in Porac, where its integrated facility handles more than 2,000 tons of waste daily. The facility uses semi-automated segregation to recover recyclable materials from incoming waste. Materials deemed recoverable are diverted to value-creation activities, including the production of refuse-derived fuel.
By pairing waste processing with conservation activities, PWS is positioning environmental management as a broader community effort—one that extends from handling waste after collection to supporting waste reduction, resource recovery and ecosystem restoration.
