Security Bank and MUFG Bank Manila have refreshed the Tsuruki-en (“Crane and Turtle”) Japanese Garden at Washington SyCip Park, returning a beloved nature retreat to the community.
Tucked among towers and busy streets, the garden offers rare calm in the city — open to workers, residents, families and visitors to pause, unwind, and soak in zen-inspired peace.
Launched in 2017 by Security Bank, MUFG and the late Washington SyCip, Tsuruki-en’s renewal marks the 10th year of their partnership and celebrates enduring Japan–Philippines ties.
“Tsuruki-en brings calm amid the bustle,” said Security Bank President & CEO Victor Lee. “As we celebrate a decade with MUFG, we’re proud to renew this space for everyone. We hope more people enjoy this Makati gem.”
Designed around wa — harmony and balance — the garden uses locally sourced sustainable materials, blending stone, water and greenery to reflect friendship between both nations.
“Refreshing Tsuruki-en is our way of caring for the city we share,” said MUFG Manila Country Head Masami Yoshitake. “It embodies the respect, purpose and commitment to the Philippines that guide our partnership.”
Representatives from Security Bank, MUFG, MACEA and partners gathered for the rededication. The garden is now open — ready for quiet breaks, leisurely walks, and rediscovery.
