The Government Service Insurance System marked National Teachers’ Day on October 5 by expanding its Adopt-A-School Program to 30 public schools nationwide, releasing up to ₱12 million in support that now includes solar power systems for the first time.
Each school gets up to ₱400,000 for learning tools, furniture, and equipment for both face-to-face and online classes. The new solar units deliver steady electricity, keeping computers and teaching devices running reliably in areas with poor or unstable power supply.
Public school teachers make up over half of GSIS’ two million members. GSIS chief Wick Veloso said the program is more than aid — it is a tribute to educators on their special day. “Many teach where power is scarce. We give them reliable power and proper tools, so they can teach well and students get a fair chance to learn,” he stated.
Schools are selected with DepEd, prioritizing last-mile and high-need communities. The four-year program runs 2024–2027, targeting 30 schools yearly under GSIS Board Resolution No. 133, with total funding at ₱48million.
Beyond securing pensions, GSIS said it stands with teachers and invests in better learning conditions across the country.
