New DICT chief De Claro vows to fast-track PH digital transformation

Newly appointed Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Robert Joseph Montes de Claro has committed to accelerating the country’s digital shift and delivering better public services.

In his first message to DICT employees, De Claro said technology will be used to make government work faster and more efficient. “The beauty of IT is that it is faster. We will use it to our advantage. We will make each day count from today,” he said.

De Claro succeeds former DICT chief Henry Aguda. Under the Marcos administration, the department is focused on expanding internet access, strengthening cybersecurity, promoting responsible digital use, and modernizing government services. “Together, let us make each day count as we work toward a more connected, secure, and digitally inclusive Philippines,” De Claro added.

He brings extensive tech and leadership experience, having served as president and CEO of several firms, and holds a degree in Computer Science from De La Salle University. Most recently, he was with the Social Security System since January 2023, chairing its IT committee, and also serves on the boards of Union Bank and Union Digital Bank.
