DITO hurdles 4th NTC infrastructure audit

DITO Telecommunity Corp. on Tuesday successfully hurdled its fourth technical audit by the National Telecommunications Commission.

“Despite all the challenges we have faced, we continue to achieve our commitment to the government and the Filipino people to provide affordable world-class service and to serve the underserved,” Adel Tamano, chief administrative officer, said.

“This was in support of the Marcos Administration’s drive towards digitalization and nation-building,” he quickly added.

According to the NTC, the independent auditor R.G. Manabat & Co. found that DITO has achieved a population cover averaging 80.65 percent.

Its minimum average broadband speed (MABS) was clocked at 74.97 Mbps for 4G broadcast and 639.32 Mbps for 5G broadcast in all sites or a combined MABS of 357.14 Mbps.

As a result, the NTC said DITO “passed” the technical audit of its national population cover and MABS, it fourth in as many years.

The annual audit is part of conditions set forth in DITO’s certificate of public convenience and necessity.

“This is wonderful news and testament to how far the network of DITO has grown since we started building our first tower in 2019, and fortuitously after OpenSignal awarded DITO four impressive awards in their latest report: Upload Speed Experience, Availability, Excellent Consistent Quality, and Core Consistent Quality,”  DITO Chief Technology Officer, Retired Major General Rodolfo Santiago said.

NTC data show DITO with a subscriber base of 8.35 million as of 3 September this year.

It earlier allotted P27 billion this year as capital expenditure, lower than the year-ago capex of P50-billion.

DITO has spent over P150 billion to roll out the infrastructure consistent with its commitment to spend P257 billion over five years to achieve an internet speed of 55 megabits per second and cover 84 percent of the population.
