West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is assessing via public hearing the sentiment of constituents on the proposed expansion of its Putatan water treatment plant (PWTP) in Muntinlupa city.
In a notice posted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the hearing begins on 19 July19 and open to all interested parties.
The notice explained that Maynilad’s goal is to optimize the operation of the PWTP, boost its capacity from 300 million liters per day (MLD) to 340 MLD and provide an additional 20 MLD per day via a modular treatment plant that will augment the supply deficiency in the area.
The public hearing also has bearing on the project’s environmental performance report and management plan.
Maynilad said the planned expansion is estimated to cost P580 million and forms part of the plan to augment water supply and mitigate the impact of El Niño on water supply. The plant uses raw water from the Laguna Lake.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire by customer number serving the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite Province.
