Alternergy Holdings Corp. said Tuesday that it secured the endorsement of the Provincial Development Council of Quezon for its plan to develop a wind farm in Alabat Island, clearing the last preconstruction hurdle to the renewable energy project.
Alternergy is accelerating the development of its wind power projects in Alabat, Quezon and Tanay, Rizal with a capacity of up to 164 megawatts. The projects were recently awarded under the Green Energy Auction 2 Program of the Department of Energy.
The development council of Quezon viewed the renewable energy project in Alabat Island to be consistent with the province’s vision of optimizing the utilization of resources and the provision of infrastructure and support services that will be “beneficial to the socio-economic development” of Quezon. Alternergy expects to get the notice to proceed with construction by the second half of 2024.
“We welcome the favorable support from the Quezon Province. We will be long-term partners for the development of not just the Alabat Island but the entire province. Our Alabat Wind Power Project is committed to delivering sustainable energy and growth to our community,” Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua. said in a statement.
Alternergy has a portofolio of renewable energy projects that includes the 33MW Bangui Bay wind farm, the first on-grid wind farm in Southeast Asia; the 54MW Pililia wind farm; several solar projects such as the 28MW direct current Solana Solar power plant in Hermosa, Bataan; and hydroelectric projects such as the 17.4MW Kiangan run-of-river project.
