SN Aboitiz Power said its 24-megaWatt Magat battery energy storage system, or BESS, project has received a provisional authority to operate from the Energy Regulatory Commission last month.
SNAP said the project, which broke ground in April 2022, was completed last July. Testing and commissioning with the grid operator was complete in December.
Magat BESS, located in Isabela province, will be used primarily for ancillary services in the Luzon grid and started commercial operation in the reserve market on January 26. The power facility utilizes liquid-cooled lithium-ion batteries and is connected to the grid via a 230-kV power transformer.
SNAP is a joint venture between renewable energy solutions provider Scatec, which is headquartered in Norway and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, and Aboitiz Power, the power generation and distribution arm of the Aboitiz Group.
