Quezon Power Philippines Ltd. Co. (QPL), subsidiary of the EGCO Group of Thailand, plans building a 1,200 megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in Mauban, Quezon Province.
Documents obtained from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) indicate the project will cost P71 billion.
The filing also indicated the project will approximately use 30 hectares of land as it will require the construction of on-shore regasification and storage facilities, power plant, liquefied natural gas (LNG) jetty, LNG unloading system, and other support facilities.
The documents also indicate the project starting construction this year and begin commercial operations by 2028.
The company said the project to be called the San Francisco LNG combined cycle gas turbine will be built north of its existing coal-fired power plant, the 460-MW Quezon power plant.
QPL said the proposed natural gas-fired power facility aims to provide stable power supply in Luzon through a reliable and affordable base load power supply.
The company told the DENR the site selection was influenced by its proximity to existing power plants and its accessibility by road and sea, given that transporting LNG is convenient if deliveries are focused only in one area. QPL is owned by Electricity Generating Public Co., the first independent power producer in Thailand.
