International Container Terminal Services Inc., the global port operator of tycoon Enrique Razon Jr., said Monday it will build a new international container terminal in Bauan, Batangas, a project that will be the largest privately-funded marine terminal in the country.
ICTSI said the terminal will cost around USD800 million and will deliver over 2 million twenty-foot equivalent units of capacity. The first two phases of the project will feature 900-meter quay and at least 8 ship-to-shore gantry cranes.
Construction for the first phase of the container terminal is expected to start in the first quarter of next year, with the first berth due for completion at the end of 2027. The second phase of the project will be pursued depending on demand.
ICTSI expects the terminal to become a catalyst for economic growth across Southern Luzon, creating jobs and accelerating regional development. The terminal is also expected to play a role in providing the marine handling needs required by the country’s renewable energy transition strategy for Southern Luzon. The Bauan terminal will also allow ICTSI to balance capacity needs of the container port at Manila’s harbor.
