Blueleaf Energy Philippines and its floating solar project NKS Solar One, together with the Corazon Atayde Memorial Foundation launched the Learning English Through Stories (LET’S Read Program) in San Juan Central School in Kalayaan, Laguna.
Forty-five elementary pupils were given learning materials, books, and tutorial support with the help of volunteer teachers and parents. The program aimed at encouraging love for reading and learning in children, especially those in danger of falling through the cracks. It is a program that hopes to arm the students with confidence and skills that will help them to succeed in life.
“Aside from delivering renewable energy, we believe in empowering the communities where we operate. The good thing with this program is it is truly a holistic and collaborative approach in improving literacy. Everyone helps create a reading culture in and outside the classroom.” shares Jason Gavina, Blueleaf Energy Philippines’ head of Community Relations and Marketing.
The program included a parent orientation, teacher training, and provision of learning materials complimenting the current curriculum.
“We are grateful to Blueleaf Energy Philippines, NKS Solar One, and all the partners for choosing our school as the pilot in Laguna. This is of immense help for our pupils, especially those who need extra support. Their improved reading competencies will surely help them as they progress in their academic journeys.” says Babyln Gadaza, principal of San Juan Central School.
NKS Solar One is a 250-MW floating solar project in Laguna, a joint venture of Blueleaf Energy Philippines and NKS Energy Utilities. Blueleaf Energy Philippines is a portfolio company of Macquarie Capital operating on a stand-alone basis.
