    DA estimates TS Enteng damage to agriculture at P2.26B

    The Department of Agriculture on Monday reported damage to the farm sector aggregating P2.26 billion, sharply higher than only P659 million on Friday. 

    The DA said Tropical Storm Enteng spoiled 51,728 metric tons (MT) of farm goods tended by 59,669 farmers and fisherfolk in 37,471 hectares of farm land across the country.

    The bulk of the damage was on  48,646 MT of rice worth an estimated P1.11 billion on top of P1 billion in ruined irrigation facilities.

    P42.66 million worth of 2,434 MT of corn were also recorded as damaged alongside P26.66 million worth of 548 MT of high value crops, P1.98 million worth of 101 MT of cassava and P16,000 for six heads of livestock and poultry.

    Some 2,434 MT of corn worth an estimated P42.66 million, 548 MT of high value crops of another P1.98 million, 101 MT of cassava and P16,000 worth of livestock and poultry were lost.

    The DA said this was based on captured data from the Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

    The DA said the distribution of assistance for farmers and fishers include P202.86 million in the form of seeds, bio-control measures and farm tools.
