Key stakeholders in the export industry will gather for the National Export Congress (NEC) on Monday, 5 December 2024, under the theme “Sustainability: Shaping the Future of Philippine Exports.” The event, set to take place at the Conrad Hotel in Pasay City, will focus on sustainable practices as a strategy to enhance the competitiveness and growth of the nation’s exports.
The NEC seeks to support the country’s goal of becoming Southeast Asia’s hub for smart and sustainable manufacturing and services. The theme highlights the importance of using sustainable materials, ethical sourcing, cost-effective strategies, and responsible supply chains in ensuring long-term industry competitiveness. The congress aims to empower the private sector by encouraging the adoption of market-based tools for sustainability.
Three key sessions will address current sustainability practices, evolving export regulations, and the promotion of sustainable trade, particularly in women-led businesses. The discussions will explore how sustainability is influencing global consumer behavior and economic dynamics, with a focus on shaping export trends.
In addition to the policy dialogues, the congress will present select sustainability initiatives and recognize outstanding achievements within the Philippine export sector. Awards will be given to exemplary exporters and government agencies that have significantly supported the industry’s growth.
The NEC is the highlight of the National Exporters’ Week (NEW), an annual event organized by the Department of Trade and Industry’s Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB), the Export Development Council, and PHILEXPORT. NEW, declared by Presidential Proclamation No. 931 in 1996, also includes the Exporters’ Exhibit and Usapang Exports (UE) sessions, which showcase the essential role of trade enablers such as government agencies, financial institutions, and business support organizations.
This year’s NEC promises to be a pivotal moment in driving the Philippines’ export industry towards a more sustainable and competitive future.
