    SK president declares martial law

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Tuesday, banning all political activities to resolve a deadlock paralyzing his administration. The decree also grants Yoon control over the media. Quickly challenged by the National Assembly, it has sparked protests and clashes with police. This is South Korea’s first martial law declaration since the end of military dictatorship in the 1980s. While the full impact remains unclear, the decree is likely to hurt SoK’s financial outlook, with the won already weak versus the U.S. dollar. SK is a major tourism market and source of ODAs for the Philippines.
