GSIS allocates P8.6B for emergency loans to typhoon victims

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has earmarked P8.6 billion in emergency loans for 363,547 active members and pensioners impacted by recent typhoons. The loan program, which offers financial relief for those in disaster-stricken areas, comes with a 6 percent interest rate and a three-year repayment term. Active members can borrow up to P40,000, while old-age and disability pensioners are eligible for P20,000.

Application deadlines vary by region, with the earliest cut-off on 4 January for Isabela, and later deadlines for affected areas including Cagayan, Albay, Batangas, and Sorsogon.

Eligible borrowers must meet specific criteria, including being based in calamity-affected zones and having no unpaid loans. Funds are disbursed electronically through the GSIS Touch app.
