Meralco upgrades Quezon substation to support growing power demand

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has energized a newly upgraded Tayabas Delivery Point Substation, tripling its capacity from 100 megavolt-amperes (MVA) to 300 MVA. The upgrade is a strategic investment aimed at meeting rising electricity demand in Quezon Province and parts of Laguna, while enhancing service reliability for key commercial and industrial clients.

The enhanced 230 kV–115 kV facility provides N-1 contingency capability, ensuring uninterrupted supply even during equipment failure, and is expected to reduce system losses by over 168,000 kWh. It strengthens Meralco’s network resilience and supports future load growth, positioning the area for sustained economic development.

Major beneficiaries of the project include SM City Lucena, Pacific Mall Lucena, Quezon Medical Center, Southern Luzon State University, and several hospitals and government offices. According to Meralco first vice president and head of networks Froilan J. Savet, the project is part of a broader initiative to upgrade infrastructure in high-growth areas, reinforcing the utility’s commitment to stable and sufficient energy delivery.

“As energy demand continues to grow, we remain dedicated to building a resilient distribution network that supports economic development and improves lives,” Savet said.
