NAIA reports 12.7% surge in Holy Week travelers to 1.17M

Passenger traffic at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) rose sharply during the 2025 Holy Week period, with over 1.17 million travelers recorded from 13 to 20 April  — a 12.7 percent increase from the same period last year, according to New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).

The busiest day was Easter Sunday, when NAIA handled 156,635 passengers. Average daily volume reached 146,611, with both international and domestic sectors posting double-digit growth: 11.21 percent and 14.19 percent year-on-year, respectively.

NNIC credited the smooth operations—despite NAIA operating beyond its original design capacity—to recent upgrades, enhanced coordination with government agencies, and expanded personnel support during peak times. Initiatives under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) included faster processing at immigration counters and improved passenger flow across terminals.

NNIC president Ramon S. Ang noted the improvements as a sign of NAIA’s ongoing transformation. “We saw higher passenger numbers, but smoother and faster operations,” he said. “That’s not by chance, it’s the result of planning, investment, and teamwork.”

NNIC, which took over airport operations in September 2024, is investing P170 billion to modernize NAIA and boost its efficiency and capacity under a public-private partnership with the government.
