Subic regatta wraps up national yacht racing series

SUBIC BAY — The BPI Subic Regatta 2026 closed the third season of the BPI Private Wealth Signature Yacht Race Series, drawing sailors from across the country for a final round of racing focused on precision and teamwork.

A total of 14 boats joined this year’s event, including a record nine entries in the highly competitive IRC class. The regatta also highlighted inclusivity in the sport, featuring the first all-women crew from Team Enterprise.

As the fourth and final leg of the series, the Subic races determined the overall season champions after months of competition in key sailing destinations nationwide. Races were held on inshore courses in Subic Bay, where changing wind conditions tested strategy and coordination among teams.

The event followed international race management standards and was led by International Race Officer Simon James with support from an international jury.

Raw Honey, skippered by James Villareal, emerged as the overall winner and topped the IRC class. Papaya, led by Renie Ticzon, won the Cruising class, while Estelita Del Mar, skippered by Andy Aguila, claimed victory in the Ocean Multihull class.

Other top finishers included Belatrix and Centennial III in the IRC class, Neptunus III and Enterprise in the Cruising class, and Carino in the Ocean Multihull division.

Organizers said this year’s theme, “Do More for the Philippine Seas,” highlights efforts to promote marine conservation and sustainable tourism. The series partnered with WWF-Philippines to support environmental awareness and research, including work involving the M/Y Navorca vessel.

Community activities such as environmental talks and a beach cleanup were also held alongside the races in Subic.

Now in its third year, the sailing series continues to grow, attracting local and international participants while promoting environmental protection and community engagement.
