CALAX segment opens toll-free, shortens Cavite travel

Motorists can drive a newly opened stretch of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) free of charge for one month starting May 5, as the government rolls out immediate relief from congestion and rising travel costs.

Speaking at the inauguration of Subsection 3 in General Trias, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the 4.5-kilometer segment will open at midnight with no toll, giving drivers an early chance to experience its impact.

The President said the new link is expected to dramatically shorten travel times within Cavite—from about 30 minutes down to just five to six. Longer trips, such as from Silang to Kawit, could drop from roughly two hours to as little as 30 to 45 minutes.

Officials say the new segment will also ease traffic along key roads in Cavite and nearby areas. Marcos added that better connectivity could allow workers in business hubs like Taguig to live farther south without facing punishing commutes.

The CALAX project, more than a decade in the making, had been delayed largely by right-of-way issues. Marcos acknowledged the support of local officials in pushing the project forward, and thanked the Metro Pacific group and other partners behind the development.

The month-long toll holiday is expected to draw motorists onto the expressway, helping decongest existing routes while highlighting the benefits of major infrastructure investments.
