The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) on Monday called on senators to take decisive action to rebuild the credibility of the Senate as it prepares to convene as an impeachment court for Vice President Sara Duterte.
MAP described the impeachment proceedings as a “solemn constitutional duty” that demands the highest level of public trust and institutional integrity, particularly at a time when the Senate faces mounting criticism and political polarization.
The influential business group said the Senate’s handling of the impeachment trial would have far-reaching consequences not only for the rights of Duterte and the House prosecutors, but also for the credibility of one of the country’s key democratic institutions.
“In this context, we call on our senators to take every step necessary to restore the credibility of the Senate and strengthen public faith in the impeachment process,” MAP said.
MAP also pushed for what it called a “peaceful and principled realignment” in Senate leadership to ensure the proceedings are conducted on the “firmest possible foundation of impartiality and fairness.”
According to the organization, Senate leadership perceived as objective and free from partisan influence would help safeguard the integrity and legitimacy of the impeachment process.
“At this critical moment, we urge our senators to remain steadfast in their fidelity to the Constitution, uphold the highest standards of institutional integrity, and demonstrate the credible and principled governance that the Filipino people deserve,” MAP said.
