BPI conducts financial literacy sessions for MMMA graduating cadets

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), in partnership with BPI Foundation’s Bayan Program, has organized financial literacy and wellness workshops for over 280 graduating cadets of MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA).

Tailored to the specific needs of seafarers, the sessions covered budgeting, saving, responsible spending, and income management. Participants also took part in practical activities including budget planning and simulated financial scenarios onboard ships.

Aside from financial education, BPI assisted the cadets in opening bank accounts, setting up payroll and allotment arrangements, and exploring remittance services. Each participant received a “Seafarer’s Kit” containing essential items, while new client accounts were also made available to them.

BPI stated that the program aims to equip future maritime professionals with the knowledge to manage their earnings wisely, support their families, and achieve long-term financial stability. The initiative will be held annually and will eventually include junior cadets to foster good financial habits early on.
