Toyota Hilux adds electric power to pickup battle

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has opened retail sales of the all-new Toyota Hilux, introducing Filipino buyers to the ninth-generation pickup with a sharper design, upgraded technology and a milestone addition, the first-ever 4×4 battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant in the Hilux lineup.

Available nationwide beginning July 21, the new Hilux expands Toyota’s pickup portfolio with a mix of diesel-powered models and an all-electric version, reflecting the company’s multi-pathway approach to electrification by giving customers more choices based on their driving needs.

The redesigned Hilux arrives with Toyota’s new “Cyber Sumo” styling, featuring C-shaped LED headlamps, a wider honeycomb grille and a cleaner rear profile with an integrated deck-side step. Inside, higher variants receive a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Premium Conquest and BEV models add synthetic leather seats, power-adjustable front seats and upgraded safety features, blending utility with a more refined cabin experience.

Diesel variants continue to use Toyota’s proven 2.8-liter turbocharged engine, delivering 204 PS and up to 500 Nm of torque. The new Hilux 4×4 BEV, meanwhile, uses a dual-motor electric drivetrain producing 196 PS and offering up to 315 kilometers of driving range under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

Toyota is positioning the electric Hilux as a bridge between traditional pickup capability and cleaner mobility, with the model retaining four-wheel-drive capability while eliminating tailpipe emissions. Buyers of the BEV variant also receive a complimentary home wall charger and installation.

The all-new Hilux starts at P1.772 million for the 2.8 4×2 E A/T and climbs to P2.99 million for the range-topping Hilux 2.8 4×4 BEV. Other variants include the 2.8 4×2 G, 2.8 4×4 E, and Conquest versions, offering buyers a wider range of configurations.

The launch strengthens Toyota’s push into electrified mobility in the Philippines while preserving the Hilux’s reputation as a workhorse for businesses, outdoor enthusiasts and everyday drivers.

With the arrival of its first electric 4×4 pickup, Toyota is betting that Filipino consumers are ready for a new chapter in the Hilux story, one where rugged capability meets the quiet pull of electric power.
