Globe teams up with Japan’s KDDI for next phase of growth

Globe Telecom Inc. has entered a strategic partnership with KDDI Corporation, one of Japan’s top telecommunications and digital services firms, to unlock new growth opportunities for mobile services and transform retail experiences across the Philippines.

According to Globe president and chief executive Carl Cruz, the company has long held that growth goes hand in hand with improving its overall approach to customer service. He noted that this collaboration allows Globe to learn from one of the world’s most advanced telecommunications and digital ecosystems, while sharing its own deep insight into what Filipino customers need and prefer. Both companies plan to develop ways to make mobile services more useful, retail interactions smoother, and digital solutions better suited to the changing demands of the public. Looking ahead to 2027 and beyond, Cruz said the goal is to deliver value that goes beyond basic connectivity, helping build a stronger and more inclusive digital ecosystem nationwide.

The partnership will combine KDDI’s proven expertise in Japan—including business models that link telecommunications with financial services, entertainment, lifestyle offerings and other digital tools—with Globe’s extensive reach, established market standing and its roughly 67 million mobile subscribers. As a first step, the two firms are working together to expand Globe’s retail presence and refresh how customers engage with its stores. This effort aims to reimagine physical outlets to fit an era of fast-growing digital use, while still keeping the personal guidance, trust and support that customers continue to value. For Globe, this alliance marks a meaningful shift in how people experience its brand, supporting its broader repositioning as a provider focused not just on connecting people, but on delivering integrated, empowering and truly helpful experiences for all Filipinos.
