RIO DE JANEIRO — Rio Brasil Terminal (RBT), the Brazilian port unit of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), has increased its domestic shipping connections with the start of regular calls by Norcoast at the Port of Rio de Janeiro.
The new service began operating at RBT in July. It handles domestic coastal and feeder cargo, offering more transport choices for goods moving to and from Rio de Janeiro.
RBT’s location and multi-transport links serve cargo from Rio and key areas including Minas Gerais, inland São Paulo state, and Greater São Paulo. Its rail ramps at Floriano (Rio de Janeiro state), Suzano (São Paulo state), and São José dos Campos (São Paulo state) connect these markets, supported by RBT’s recent expansion in the Alto Tietê region.
Norcoast’s route links Rio de Janeiro to a wider domestic network covering the ports of Manaus, Pecém, Suape, Salvador, Santos, Paranaguá, and Itajaí. This setup supports industrial shipments and national supply chains.
“Norcoast’s arrival at RBT strengthens the terminal’s role in unifying Brazil’s logistics network, boosting coastal shipping and industry competitiveness,” said Roberto Lopes, RBT’s chief executive officer.
“We look forward to this new service. It adds options for Rio de Janeiro and opens up São Paulo market opportunities, backed by our rail links and recent Alto Tietê expansion,” added Rafael Reis, RBT’s commercial director.
For Norcoast, adding RBT to its regular routes is part of a plan to widen its domestic coverage and service range. The company aims to meet growing demand from consumer goods, steel, and beverage sectors, while promoting coastal shipping and regional growth.
