Mobility startup Voltai, backed by Aboitiz Power Corp. through 1882 Ventures, plans to expand its motorcycle battery-swapping network in 2027, with a target of roughly 1,000 stations over the medium term.
“Our current network density is enough to cover our targets for the next year or so. We should see wider expansion by next year,” said Voltai co-founder and chief product officer Nico Policarpio. “For now, we want to fully cover Metro Manila first, then expand north and south.”
Since launching last October, Voltai has set up 15 battery-swapping stations at Cleanfuel sites across Metro Manila—the largest such network for two-wheel electric vehicles in the country.
In the first half of 2026, Voltai ran pilot programs with major logistics and delivery providers, including JRS Express and ride-hailing service Xpress (backed by Cebuana Lhuillier). “Most of our initial partners are moving to full commercial agreements. This shows confidence that our system, products, and technology work—and can scale up,” Policarpio said.
Voltai offers a complete package: electric motorcycles, swapping stations, fleet management software, a rider app, and full after-sales support—all under a fixed-fee lease for logistics, food delivery, and ride-hailing businesses. This model has helped pilot fleet operators cut operating costs by 20 percent to 60 percent, as maintenance and spare parts are covered.
Its motorcycles hold two batteries, offering up to 140 kilometers of range, a top speed of about 80 kph, and a load capacity of 200 kilograms. The fleet platform tracks real-time location, trips, distance traveled, and emissions saved.
Beyond Metro Manila, Voltai aims to expand to Cebu and Davao in the long run. “Voltai is more than electric motorcycles—it is a smarter, more sustainable way forward for riders, fleet operators, and the whole transport sector,” Policarpio added.
