Combined agriculture losses from the enhanced monsoon and Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay reached P197 million as of August 11 — up from P135.3 million — the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported Wednesday. Rice accounts for P143 million of the total, with vegetables and irrigation facilities making up the rest.
The impact is limited relative to national output: only about 4,500 metric tons of rice was lost, and most damaged fields can still recover. Rice prices are expected to stay steady; vegetable costs may see minor, short-term changes.
Aid includes P106.5 million in farm inputs, zero-interest loans up to P25,000, and insurance payouts. Support is being released quickly alongside damage checks to help farmers replant without delay.
