Globe Telecom Inc. reported that over 39.6 million subscribers actively used mobile data during the first half of 2026. Driven by an escalating reliance on video streaming, social media, gaming, digital payments, and artificial intelligence tools, subscribers consumed an average of 17 gigabytes per month, up from 15 gigabytes during the same period last year. This surge underscores how deeply digital activities have embedded themselves into the daily routines of Filipinos, elevating connectivity into what the company now considers a fifth utility alongside water, electricity, gas, and transportation.
From an operational standpoint, this massive shift toward data-heavy usage is reshaping Globe’s core business and long-term capital strategy. Data-driven revenues now make up 91 percent of the company’s consolidated gross service revenues, proving that traditional voice and text services have largely taken a backseat to digital network demand. To sustain this trajectory and manage the swelling traffic across its infrastructure, Globe deployed P26.3 billion in capital expenditures during the first six months of the year. This heavy reinvestment is designed to expand digital infrastructure, ensuring network stability, capacity, and service quality as the Philippine economy becomes increasingly digitized.
