Good communication does more than make noise. Done well, it moves people, solves problems, builds trust, and increasingly, delivers business results.
That idea took center stage at the 22nd Philippine Quill Awards, where PLDT-Smart, PAGEONE, and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde captured the top institutional honors from hundreds of entries.
PLDT-Smart was named Company of the Year, PAGEONE took Agency of the Year, while De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde earned School of the Year honors.

Organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, this year’s awards carried the theme SOAR, or shaping outcomes, advancing reputations. The competition drew participants from 81 companies and 13 schools, with entries covering communication management, research, training and education, communication skills, and student work.
The awards recognized 300 winners from 749 entries, with submissions evaluated using IABC’s global standards for strategic thinking, execution, and impact.

“Communication is being asked to do more than communicate,” IABC Philippines President Richard Arboleda said. “It is increasingly expected to help organizations navigate trust, reputation, behavior, and business outcomes.”
That evolution was evident in the winning work, where communication increasingly functions less like a corporate megaphone and more like part of the business machinery.
Arboleda said organizations are asking tougher questions about what needs to happen, what might stand in the way, and whether communication can actually help solve the problem.
“In the Philippine Quill, a winning entry is work that makes a meaningful difference,” he said.
The shift reflects the growing demands on communicators as companies navigate reputational risks, changing consumer behavior, digital disruption, and an information environment where attention is increasingly scarce.
Being heard, after all, is only part of the job. The harder task is making something happen once people are listening.
Reyes Tacandong & Co. served as official auditor, helping uphold the awards’ standards for credibility, transparency, and integrity.
Now in its 22nd year, the Philippine Quill continues to reward communication that connects smart strategy with tangible results, giving the industry a useful reminder that words carry their greatest weight when they move beyond the page and into action.
