Remulla rejects Duterte claims of police harassment

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla rejected Vice President Sara Duterte’s claim that police harassed her mother and children before she posted bail Saturday, showing a video of unarmed female officers entering her residence to serve the arrest warrant. Remulla said Duterte’s security team was in contact with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and that the vice president wanted to surrender, be incarcerated, and be placed in handcuffs. He said Duterte appeared to want photographs of herself behind bars, but the Department of the Interior and Local Government declined because the offense was bailable and she deserved respect as vice president. Police also avoided directly serving the warrant to prevent possible commotion. “She has a predilection for violence,” claimed Remulla, noting past incidents.
