Up to P11.4 billion in airport infrastructure projects are being lined up at Clark International Airport as the aviation and logistics hub prepares for bigger aircraft and expanding operations by global logistics companies.
Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Joshua Bingcang said the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has expressed interest in airport-related infrastructure, potentially adding foreign participation to Clark’s expansion.
BCDA is preparing to bid out a roughly P1.4-billion aircraft apron that will provide parking space for FedEx, UPS and other logistics operators, Bingcang said.
“The apron will serve as the parking space for FedEx planes, UPS planes, and other logistic companies going to put up business in Clark,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines Forum.
A larger runway and taxiway project, estimated at P7 billion to P10 billion, is also moving toward procurement.
“We are going to bid out already the construction and by March next year will be the runway,” Bingcang said.
The upgrades are expected to allow Clark International Airport to handle more flights and larger aircraft, supporting its development as a major logistics gateway.
BCDA is also in talks with several foreign companies interested in participating in the project and linking investments to the Luzon Economic Corridor, Bingcang said.
The expansion comes as logistics operators increase their Clark footprint. BCDA earlier said FedEx was targeting a significant increase in daily flights alongside an USD80-million facility.
Bingcang said UPS, initially expected to begin Clark operations this month, has moved its opening to next month.
Clark’s aviation complex spans 2,367 hectares and is being developed for aviation, logistics and commercial activities.
