ChatGPT Ads lands in Philippines, opening new channel

OpenAI is bringing ChatGPT Ads to the Philippines, giving businesses a new way to reach consumers as they research products, compare options and make buying decisions through AI.

The advertising platform begins rolling out September 24 across the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan, adding seven Asian markets to ChatGPT’s growing advertising footprint.

The move could create a new avenue for Philippine startups, small businesses and major brands to reach consumers at a potentially valuable point in the purchase journey: when they are actively looking for information.

Unlike traditional digital ads, ChatGPT Ads are designed to appear alongside conversations involving product comparisons, travel planning, software selection and other commercial queries.

“We’re at the beginning of a new chapter for advertising, with AI creating new ways for businesses and people to connect,” said Dave Dugan, OpenAI vice president and head of global ads solutions.

Businesses can access the platform through OpenAI’s advertising team, agency partners and eligible self-service accounts.

For consumers, the rollout is tied to OpenAI’s effort to support free and lower-cost access to ChatGPT. Ads will be shown to Free and Go subscribers, while Plus, Pro and Enterprise users will continue to have ad-free experiences.

OpenAI said ads will be clearly labeled and separated from ChatGPT’s answers. Advertisers will not be able to access private conversations or influence responses.

E-commerce giant Shopee said the expansion could help sellers connect with customers and serve them more effectively.

The launch comes as OpenAI scales its advertising business. The company said it reached a USD1-billion annualized advertising revenue run rate by end-August, with tens of thousands of advertisers using the platform across multiple countries.

For Philippine businesses, ChatGPT Ads marks the arrival of another potentially significant digital storefront—one embedded not in a search results page, but in the AI conversations increasingly shaping how consumers find and evaluate what to buy.
