AIA Philippines is sharpening its push into preventive healthcare, upgrading its AIA Vitality wellness program with personalized health assessments, nutrition tracking and expanded rewards as it seeks to turn growing health awareness among Filipinos into lasting lifestyle changes.
The enhancements come as the insurer’s Rethink Healthy study highlights a gap between health priorities and preventive action. While seven in 10 Filipinos prioritize physical health and 60 percent want greater control over their mental well-being, 83 percent said they became more proactive about their health only after major life events, such as illness, hospitalization or job loss.
The findings point to a persistent challenge for the healthcare and insurance sectors: encouraging people to act before health concerns become serious, rather than responding only when a crisis strikes.
“Our research shows that Filipinos want to take greater ownership of their health, but they need the right support to turn intention into action,” said AIA Philippines President and CEO Melita Teo.
The upgraded Vitality program aims to bridge that gap by giving members more personalized guidance and incentives to make healthier choices.
At its core is a comprehensive Health Assessment covering physical fitness, nutrition, existing medical conditions, mental well-being and sleep. The assessment generates indicators such as Vitality Age, Health Priority and Future Health, helping members identify areas that may warrant attention and track opportunities for improvement.
A new Food Tracker adds a practical dimension to the program, allowing members to upload photos of their meals for nutritional analysis, estimated calorie counts and personalized dietary recommendations. The feature is designed to make food choices easier to assess, although sustained behavior change will depend on whether members consistently use the tool and act on its guidance.
AIA Vitality also retains its points-based rewards structure, with members progressing through Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers by participating in qualifying healthy activities. Higher levels unlock additional benefits, linking engagement with tangible incentives.
The expanded rewards include discounts of up to 50 percent on Nike products and 15 percent on Garmin devices and Travel Club merchandise. Eligible members can also access complimentary health checks and consultations through MediCard.
These incentives could help make preventive health activities more appealing, particularly for members motivated by immediate savings. But the broader test will be whether the enhanced features encourage sustained participation and measurable improvements in health, rather than short-term engagement driven primarily by rewards.
For AIA Philippines, the upgrade reinforces a wider shift toward prevention as part of the insurance value proposition. Beyond financial protection when illness occurs, wellness programs offer insurers a way to engage customers more regularly and encourage habits that may support better long-term health outcomes.
Still, the scale of the opportunity depends on more than technology and discounts. Personalized assessments and tracking tools can help members understand their health, but accessibility, affordability and consistent follow-through remain important considerations in turning awareness into action.
AIA said the enhancements are intended to transform health awareness into sustained preventive action. Whether the upgraded program achieves that ambition will ultimately depend on how effectively it converts personalized insights and rewards into healthier routines over time.
