Special bus service to fill LRT-2 service gap

Transport authorities are rolling out a plan to ease the squeeze from limited LRT-2 operations. Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the LTFRB and LRTA to study issuing special permits for buses to run the full LRT-2 route—Antipolo to Recto and back—stopping at all stations.

The move comes as only 8 of 10 trains are in service, with one undergoing repairs and another getting an upgrade. Officials say the shortage is due to rising passenger numbers, not train breakdowns. New trains will take at least three years to arrive.

“We apologize for the inconvenience. We want to ensure commuters have a reliable alternative while we fix the situation,” Lopez said. Details on fares and schedules are still being worked out, with the goal of cutting long lines and crowding, especially during rush hours.
