Metro Manila water supply remains sufficient; NWRB urges simple conservation

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) confirmed Metro Manila’s water supply remains enough for now, but called on the public to practice proper usage as the country braces for a strong El Niño event.

NWRB Executive Director Dr. Sevillo David Jr. noted that while supply is adequate at present, preparation is key given the unique strength of this weather pattern, whose full effects are expected next year.

He encouraged simple yet meaningful steps such as collecting rainwater for household needs and ensuring faucets are properly turned off, noting these small actions add up to significant savings when done collectively.

Authorities are also working with local governments to guide businesses in cutting consumption and recycling water where possible, including addressing unnecessary waste like water served but left unused by customers.

To further shore up supply, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System has been cleared to activate standby deep wells in Metro Manila when needed, while Maynilad and Manila Water continue their own efforts to boost raw water availability for consumers.
