BSP warns public over scams impersonating its officials and staff

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has issued a public advisory warning against fraudsters falsely presenting themselves as BSP officials or employees. Scammers may send letters, emails, or text messages asking people to deposit or transfer money, claiming the payment is needed to release, recover, or restore funds, or even for charitable causes. Some also show fake BSP identification cards complete with names, photos, and forged signatures to appear credible.

The central bank clarified that its officials and staff never solicit payments or funds from the public for any of these purposes. The contact details used in these messages—including mobile numbers and email addresses—are not official BSP information. Legitimate financial institutions also do not send unsolicited communications asking people to transfer money to personal accounts.

The BSP urges the public not to send funds, share financial details, click suspicious links, or download files from unverified sources. Anyone receiving such communications is advised to verify their authenticity through the BSP’s official channels before taking any action.
