JTI Philippines has appointed Alan Jackson as general manager, tapping his international leadership experience as the tobacco company seeks to expand its portfolio, strengthen operations and address illicit trade in the local market.
Jackson brings more than two decades of experience across Asia, Africa, North America, Western Europe and the Middle East. Since joining Japan Tobacco International (JTI) in 2007, he has held senior positions including general manager in Tanzania and Canada, most recently serving as marketing and sales vice president for South Asia.
“The Philippines is an important market for JTI, with talented people, strong partnerships, and significant opportunities ahead,” Jackson said, adding that his priorities include building on these strengths and growing the business responsibly and sustainably.
His appointment comes as the company manages a portfolio spanning established cigarette brands Winston, Camel, Mevius and LD, alongside local brand Mighty. Its offerings also include Nordic Spirit nicotine pouches and Ploom Aura heated tobacco products, reflecting its presence across conventional and alternative nicotine categories.
Beyond portfolio development, Jackson identified illicit tobacco trade as a key industry concern, emphasizing closer cooperation between government and private-sector stakeholders.
“Illicit trade remains a serious challenge that no single sector can address alone,” he said. He added that sustained collaboration would be critical to protecting government revenues and maintaining a fair and competitive market.
The issue carries implications for tax collection, regulatory enforcement and competition between compliant businesses and illicit operators. Addressing it will require coordinated enforcement and effective implementation of existing regulations, alongside industry engagement.
Jackson also highlighted organizational development and employee growth as priorities, underscoring the importance of maintaining JTI Philippines’ people-first culture.
The company has received workplace recognition from the Top Employers Institute, which evaluates organizations’ human resources practices.
“Our people are at the heart of JTI Philippines’ success, and we remain committed to fostering an environment where they can grow, contribute, and make a meaningful impact,” Jackson said.
His leadership will coincide with the company’s efforts to navigate regulatory pressures, changing consumer preferences and competition in the Philippine tobacco market.
