Newly installed Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Robert Joseph M. de Claro is pushing for an organizational restructuring to boost the department’s performance and deliver more effective digital public services to Filipinos.
Officially taking the helm of the agency, de Claro shared his vision of turning the DICT into a leading guide for technology across government agencies and state-owned corporations, helping them use digital tools to make public services easier to access and more responsive to the needs of the people.
He explained that internal reforms are essential so the department can operate more efficiently and fully carry out its mandate as the demand for digital services across the country continues to grow.
These adjustments are expected to strengthen the DICT’s ability to implement key programs, including efforts to modernize government systems, expand internet reach, and make technology more accessible to all citizens.
Alongside internal changes, de Claro also identified reliable and reasonably priced internet access as a top priority, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to improve connectivity nationwide.
“We will not stop until we lower the price of internet services and improve telecommunications services for our people. Filipinos deserve better service; they should get full value for every peso they spend on the internet,” de Claro stated.
To achieve this, he is pushing to cut unnecessary bureaucracy and simplify licensing procedures for internet service providers, while making sure consumers actually receive the quality of service they pay for.
Under de Claro’s leadership, the DICT and its attached agencies will continue to work toward better telecommunications services, more robust digital government platforms, and wider internet access throughout the country.
